Reverse Engineering Your Way To Success:
The Importance Of Rituals And Good Habits

Here’s a question for you… Besides being highly successful, what do Michael Dell, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Arianna Huffington, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Martha Stewart, Richard Branson, Tony Robbins, and J.K. Rowling have in common? This is just a sample of successful entrepreneurs who have achieved greatness, and I’m sure you can think of many more.

Whomever you admire… Have you ever wondered how they are able to achieve the success they get to enjoy? Truth is, for the most part, they are not born with special talents or superhuman powers. Hey, some of them didn’t even finish College!

Generally speaking, successful people have their own success rituals and they practice them daily. These positve habits are what bring about the positive results they get. Their habits are empowering and promote a postive outlook in life which in turn, unlock the full potential of their minds. As a result, amazing things start happening as they get the ultimate breakthroughs they need to achieve greatness in life.

OK, that’s easy to understand – you say. But how do you adopt these rituals in order to achieve their level of success and greatness?

Here’s the short answer: Mindset. Truth is, these rituals are not difficult to implement, but it can be tricky to commit to them every single day when you don’t have the proper mindset.

Your mind is the single most powerful asset you have but if not used properly, it can be a big liability.  If however, it’s used correctly, it can be a powerful tool that you can use to influence your thoughts, your attitude, your actions and eventually, your results. So, if you want to create empowering rituals that propel you toward success, you MUST reprogram your mind just as successful entrepreneurs do.

Let’s remember that success is not a result of one random act, but a series of actions based on positive habits.

Research has shown evidence that when you implement empowering rituals into your life you will increase your success rate. Every highly successful person has built his/her own positive rituals that they follow religiously. That’s what they all have in common regardless of field ot work. They know the importance of rituals and know that it is the very first step in successful goal achievement.

So start taking massive action and take your first small steps toward changing your mindset. Conquer your insecurities and get ready to build your very own success rituals. No worries, you’ll have successful extrepreneurs guiding you!

Here’s What You Can Look Forward To In “Success Rituals”

Remember… you have the power to change your life for the better, especially when the advice you get is from successful people like the ones mentioned above.

These Success Rituals will bring a huge difference to your life!

Sleep and Grow Rich

Sleep and Grow Rich

Several years ago, this 1962 ebook by Ben Sweetland landed on my desktop. The title reminded me of the great Napoleon Hills’ masterpiece “Think and Grow Rich” but I didn’t think about it much at the time and saved it for future reference.

Grow Rich While You SleepLast Saturday, while searching my hard drive for something interesting to read, I bumped into the dusty old file and decided to see what the books was about. Truth is, I hadn’t heard of Ben Sweetland before, so I started with a search to see what I’d discover.

Ben Sweetland was a well-known psychologist and a famous lecturer throughout the United States. He was also known for his syndicated column called “The Marriage Clinic” and for several books he’d written, including “Add Years to Your Life and Life to Your Years”, “Fourteen Golden Secrets”, “I Will” and “I Can”… with such positive titles, I decided to dive into reading the little ebook I had found in my virtual shelf.

As I started reading  “Grow Rich While You Sleep” the main idea of the ebook became obvious…

The mastering of your success depends on your creative mind.

However, something else caught my attention… Dr. Sweetland placed an emphasis on building a success consciousness by giving clear assignments to the creative mind, so it can go to work while we sleep!

Then, he actually gives the tested commands he used himself throughout his life to achieve the success he did! He describes how he used this technique to tap into his creative mind and came up with solutions to every single problem he had, all while he slept!

He also states that once you learn how to implant these commands properly in your creative mind, your conscious mind will be forced to comply with the given order every single time.

Wow! This means that our future is shaped mainly during our sleeping hours!

This very comprehensive ebook teaches you how to attain not just material riches, but psychological, spiritual, physical and mental riches, as well.

Of course, if we are going to use this power, we must sleep peacefully and soundly. As an added bonus, Mr. Sweetland discusses the main reasons of sleeplessness (by the way, those reasons still apply today!) and gives us solutions to induce a deep and restful sleep naturally, something we can all benefit from living in today’s fast-paced world!

I was also very pleased to find a series of precise 1, 2, 3, ‘do-this-then-that’ exercises throughout several chapters. You see, according to Dr. Sweetland, achievement begins with thought but ‘knowing’ this is not enough… what good does it make to learn that your thoughts lean toward negativity more often than not?

sleep and grow richDr. Sweetland not only helps you discover what your thoughts are, but goes on to guide you to change the negativity with specific instructions. Did you know that we work harder at being a failure than at being a success?  This is not only strange but opposite to what most of us believed. However, once you finish chapter #6 (and the story of Joe Benson) it will all make sense to you.

Amongst my favorite chapters are “Why you are like you are”, “You are twice as good as you think you are”, and the one titled “Developing a Health Consciousness” is like it had been written for me!

My jaw fell to the floor when I read about concise proof of mind over matter examples. Here’s is one… Would you believe it if I told you that blond people who lost sight early in life will look young longer than those with sight? This is because their minds hold the picture of how they looked the last time they saw their reflection! Amazing, isn’t it?

The ebook is filled with real life examples and thought provoking concepts, such as the unreality of money, how rich is rich?, and money is a myth, which helps you gain a new understanding of money and a new awareness of true riches. (This section deserves a high-five, for sure.)

The whole book is both, inspirational and practical. A true gem. The more you read, the more drawn and inspired you’ll become… but if you were to ask me, what you will learn in chapter #12 is definitely priceless… The step-by-step process to give precise assignments to your creative mind while you sleep. This chapter alone is worth the price of the entire ebook and so much more…. no worries, though. The ebook sells for peanuts if compared to the content it delivers.

I could go on and share many more priceless chunks and bites of this ebook, but I’d be missing brilliant points too, so I rather let you see the complete ‘table of contents‘ and decide for yourself how you can Learn to Think Your Way to Riches and Success!

Towards the end of the book, Dr. Sweetland asks himself this question… Would it be possible for an average man or woman to read this book and then, by following its suggestions, turn the tide of mediocrity to a life of happiness and opulence?

His answer was a resounding YES!

If that is not motivating, I don’t know what is! “Grow Rich While You Sleep” covers nearly everything you need to know about the Ancient Wealth Secrets that can turbo-charge your earnings potential into overdrive… AND it points out the steps to do it. The best part is that once you get the steps in order, the rest happens while you sleep!

I invite you to gain a new and improved rich consciousness with this ‘no-fluff-all-wisdom’ insightful ebook! If you haven’t yet clicked on the links above, get it here…   Grow Rich While You Sleep!

May You Grow Rich as You Sleep!

The Power of Concentration

The Power of Concentration

Do you ever find yourself wondering why some succeed at a certain task while others don’t? Training aside, would you believe me if I told you that much of success has to do with your ability to focus your mind and concentrate on one task at a time?

From mundane daily tasts and all the way to manifesting larger things in life, this happens at every level. Let’s explore this in more detail…

In today’s high paced world, one of the biggest challenges for most of us is to keep our mind quiet and focused even if for a few moments sometimes! Think about it…

From TV commercials, highway billboards, cell phones ringing, traffic, newspapers, radio, documents and files at work – and yes, the Internet, social media and the like, we’re being bombarded most every minute of the day with all kinds of information. Hey, we are living in the Information Age after all!  🙂

Now let’s see what goes on inside our brains… like an overworked librarian classifying information and organizing books at ultra speed, our brains are constantly struggling to decide what to let “in”, what to keep, what to file, what to ignore, and what to discard completely. On top of that, there are the subjective thoughts that go on in our minds on automatic… you know, the kinds of thoughts such as the argument with your partner this morning, taking the car for an oil change, paying the bills, the PTA meeting tomorrow morning, picking the suit up from the cleaners, deadlines at work, etc. etc. And then again, while all of this is happening, we are supposed to perform at work and at home… Wow! No wonder we feel exhausted at the end of the day!

Something similar happens when we are trying to manifest a larger goal.  You see, we’ve heard plenty of times about the power of thought, and how we can give life to our thoughts and create physical things. After all, every single thing was first conceived as a thought. These are the very principles of the law of attraction… we get what we think about most of the time… right? But with scattered thoughts it is close to impossible to manifest anything.

“Concentration, in its truest, unadulterated form,
means the ability to focus the mind on one single solitary thing.”

~ Komar

Due to all of this, we must consider this vital element that too many people overlook when trying to get a daily task done or manifesting something larger. It is called concentration or focused attention, and when you think about it, this element cannot be ignored if what you want is to take a thought from your mind into physical form, be it delivering a report on time or the 2 week Greek island cruise you’ve been dreaming of for a while.

When you learn to firmly concentrate all of your attention on one particular thought or thing at a time, all of your thoughts and actions are on target with your one specific goal. Now, this does not mean that you just concentrate in one thing day in and day out until it’s completed and ignore all others. What it means is to focus ALL of your attention when you are at something, even if it takes just a few minutes. For instance, you focus your attention 100% to write your report when you sit down to write it. Yiu leave every other thing out of your mind while you write it, however long it takes. Then, you can dedicate 15 minutes of complete focus to visualizing your Greek cruise later in the day.

Realize that the secret is to use the power of concentration while you are doing a task, instead of letting your mind wander into other things while you’re at it. Got it?

Once you discover that the ability to focus your attention on one thing at a time is one of the best things you can do to prevent fatigue, overwhelm, and unnecesary stress, you’ll understand how trying to tackle several things at once has hindered your performance as well as your manifesting efforts. You’ll also clearly see why you’ve been getting the kind of results that you’ve got.

At this point it is safe to say that you must make the learning of focus and concentration a priority. Is that right?

The good news is that concentration is not something you’re born with but a skill that can be learned. Learning to control your mind and get focused could mean the difference between living aimlessly and living on purpose.

Do I have your attention now?

As you waste less time you experience faster results… And if that wasn’t enough, you also become more efficient because your mind is not being bugged with useless thoughts (what shirt whould I wear tomorrow? – kind of thoughts.) As a result, your fresher and less cluttered mind starts going on override, which will get you new ideas that you couldn’t have thought of when your thoughts were all scattered and your mind cluttered.

How’s that for increasing your performance, manifesting, and achievement?

One of my favorite New Thought Movement authors, Theron Q. Dumont (William Walker Atkinson), author of “Personal Magnetism“, “Practical Memory Training” and yes, The Power of Concentration among several others, wrote…

“It is of the utmost value to learn how to concentrate.”

To succeed at anything you must be able to concentrate your entire thought upon the idea you are working on. You must be able to set all other tasks and obligations aside – for the time being. Know that the person that is able to concentrate utilizes all constructive thoughts and shuts out all destructive ones.

The greatest man would accomplish nothing if he lacked concentration. There is actually nothing that you cannot achieve when you dominate the power of concentration!

Now here is the fun part… I want to invite you today to learn this powerful skill from the master himself, Theron Q. Dumont, for just the price of a latte. After reading and practicing the principles in this ebook, you will soon find yourself being more focused, and more on target to achieve any goal you set your mind into.

And, once you learn the principles of the power of concentration, you can instantly activate your focus by downloading this MP3 to train your mind to succeed with the power of concentration and ultra-focus. Give it a go. It’s totally free! Get it by clicking on the banner below…

Bagua Map

Feng Shui

Bagua Map

Feng Shui is all about the symbiotic relationship between man and natural environment. The philosophy of this Art of Placement states that balance in life is achieved when man and nature are co-existing harmoniously
with each other.

In Feng Shui, a Bagua Map –also called Feng Shui Energy Map– is a tool to help define the quality of the energy in your house, office and other living spaces. In that respect, the Bagua Map serves as a guide to help you improve the areas that have weak or disrupted energies.

To determine the Bagua of your house, is recommended to do a compass reading, starting with the main door or entryway to your house. The front door is considered as a very important starting point in Feng Shui because it is where the energy flows into your home or office. Using the Bagua map, the door guides the energies to bring about helpful people, personal growth or success in your business or career.

There are two schools in Feng Shui Bagua. The “Traditional School” which is based on the octagon shaped diagram and compass and the “BTB/Western School” which does not consider the North, South, East and West directions but instead uses the door to define the qualities of the energies of every area in your home.

However, both schools have the same nine areas of life and consider the same Feng Shui colors and elements. The following traditional Bagua Map was designed by Caroline Patrick BorNei, a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner and Artist, who kindly allowed me to share it with you here, for illustration purposes.

The BTB/Western School Bagua Map is a grid divided into nine parts which represent the nine areas of life. In the Western School, you lay the Bagua Map with its bottom edge aligned with the wall where the main door or entryway to your house is. Each square is assigned to a Feng Shui area.

The lower grid (from left to right) will be your personal growth and cultivation, career and path, and the helpful people and blessings. Middle row is family and heart, health, and children and creativity. Upper Row are wealth, prosperity and abundance, fame and reputation, and love and marriage / relationships.

 Meaning of Colors

Feng Shui colors are needed to bring light into your home, which is a primary nutrient for a happy home. The choice of Feng Shui colors depends largely on the type of energy you need to bring into your living space. This need considers the walls, furniture, draperies, carpets, and everything that you bring into your home. The colors of Feng Shui are expressed or defined by the elements, as follows:

Fire – High Energy and Passion

Red denotes luxury and richness but has to be used in moderation because excessive use of red will bring negative energies such as anger and aggression. Orange is lively and energetic. Avoid using orange with the metal element because fire melts metal. Purple is the meditation color of choice and is associated with spiritual realms. Avoid purple as wall color. Soft red and pink are the colors of love. Bright Yellow enhances self-esteem, positive energy, good health and well being.

Earth – Stability and Nourishment

Light Yellow promotes positive energy. Earth or sandy colors and Beige are linked to permanence and steadiness.

Metal – Accuracy and Clarity

Gray and gold express the qualities of metal: reflective, clear and sharp which gives life and clarity in space. White heals and soothes the psyche and denotes a bright future.

Water – Abundance, Ease and Freshness

Blue denotes healing and refreshing qualities of the element. Black signifies sophistication and mystery, defines the space adding strength and depth to it.

Wood – Vitality and Health

Brown keeps the balance and provides nourishment to the energy. Green represents new life, new energy and renewal.

The Nine Areas of the Bagua Compass

East – has the life area of Family and Health.

West – has the life area of Children and Creativity.

North – has the life area of Life’s Path and Career.

South – has the life area of Fame and Reputation.

Northeast – has the life area of Wisdom, Knowledge and Spiritual Growth.

Northwest – has the life area of Travel, Helpful People and Blessings.

Southeast – has the life area of Abundance and Material Wealth.

Southwest – has the life area of Relationships, Marriage and Love.

At first, it can be tricky to put all elements and colors together, but with practice and using your intuition as guidance, it all falls into place. Besides the obvious benefits you can get, it can be a lot of fun!

Feng Shui

Feng Shui

for Balance & Harmony

If you have ever flipped through the pages of an interior decorating magazine, you most likely appreciated the comfort and beauty of the living environments portrayed in the photographs.

Now imagine if those living spaces were also infused with positive energy to enhance your living experience!

Good News… You can achieve this with Feng Shui, the Chinese art that literally takes interior decorating to the next level by focusing not only on material comfort but on the circulation of vital energy as well.

Feng Shui is also known as the “Art of Placement” because it helps design living spaces by placing furniture and objects in accordance with universal principles. It uses natural elements to balance the energy flow or Chi with the purpose of creating a more harmonious and happier environmental experience.

Feng Shui (pronounced Fong Schuay) literally means “wind and water.” As you know, these two natural elements are vital for life. They are also in constant movement as they flow and circulate freely throughout the planet. Since wind and water are never still, they represent energy.

Wind (oxygen, air) is the the “breath of life” and water comprises 75% of everything in the planet. Moreover, when these two natural elements combine they create a diversity of weather and temperature conditions that also determine the circumstances of life, not only for human beings but for all life forms on the planet.

Even though Wind and Water are the main elements, all five elements are considered as each has a different kind of energy based on its unique properties.

The Five Elements of Feng Shui

  • Water. Always in motion, always running, always conveying energy. It is related to life, nourishment, communication, travel and everything that has to do with movement. It is symbolized by the colors blue and black.
  • Wood. Represents creativity and innovation, inspiration, insight and motivation. It is symbolized with the colors brown and green.
  • Fire. This element represents warmth, energy, passion and enthusiasm when in balance with the other elements. It is the strongest of all elements, so must be used with caution as it can derive in aggressiveness and destruction. It is symbolized by colors in the red spectrum.
  • Earth. This is for stability, permanence, solidity, patience, honesty and methodical activities. It is symbolized by the colors beige and yellow.
  • Metal. It relates to harvest, health, business, money and success. It is symbolized by the colors white, grey or gold.

The technique used to place objects and elements in accordance to these principles is called Feng Shui Map or Bagua. It is an octagon shaped energy map or diagram with nine areas (counting the center as one) that encompasses all areas of life.

Every section is dedicated to a specific area: Prosperity, Money and Abundance; Fame, Recognition and Reputation; Love, Marriage and Relationships; Creativity and Children; Travel, Help and Mentor; Career, Work and Life Path; Skills, Abilities, Spirituality and Knowledge; Family; and Health. To learn more about the Bagua Map, please click here.

When we consider that every single living creature and every inert thing in the universe is swirling energy, all intermingled and in constant movement, we are able to perceive the value of Feng Shui in the state of our living environment that much more. From this viewpoint, Feng Shui is holistic in nature. It helps you design your living space in alignment with energy flow and universal principles so you get to live harmoniously in your environment.

Seven Essentials that You can use to apply Feng Shui to Your Living Spaces

  • Wind Chimes
These help increase harmony within family members. Place a wind chime by your front door to invite good vibes to all who live in your home as well as to all who cross the entryway of your home. The soft sounds of a wind chime will make you feel good about being home, and raise the energy of your home  environment.  Bells hung on the front door’s knob also invite harmony into the home. The sounds of bells raise the energy every time the door is opened and people come in. Also, wind chimes in the bedroom help enhance love and relationships. In general, wind chimes disseminate good vibes into the air.
  • Rocks
Rocks are solid and heavy which help with stabilizing and grounding creating a secure, sturdy and settled environment. These are to be placed by the entry way or foyer or in any place where there is a lot of movement in order to slow down fast moving energy and bring peace into the environment.
  • Candles
All candles in different shapes and colors are Feng Shui enhancers. Aromatic candles are particularly good to alter energy in a variety of ways. Some are soothing, others are stimulating. Anything that affects the senses has the power to alter the flow of energy.
  • Crystals
These should be hanged over places where family members gather together, and other places where energy can get heavy. Some examples of these are around coffee tables, family room areas and dining room tables. Crystal balls help make disagreements less intense (they absorb heavy energies) bringing calmness to the environment.
  • Red Ribbons
In general, colors are very important when it comes to Feng Shui, and red is special in which it reflects energy that balances the Yin-Yang. Use red ribbons to hang the crystal balls, and especially tie them around your phone for clear communication, good business practices and prosperity.
  • Chinese Coins
Speaking of red ribbons, tie a handful of Chinese coins with a 9, 18 or 27 inch red ribbon and hang it on the back of your front door handle. This will attract money and prosperity.
  • Fish Pond
If you can afford a pond, place one with 9 gold fish (eight should be red and one black) by your front door or in your back yard. Keep the water clean at all times. The red fish is meant to bring good fortune and the black to absorb negative vibes. Also, it is peaceful to watch fish swim.

The main purpose of Feng Shui is to achieve an overall balance of Chi or energy in the living spaces. When the elements are combined harmoniously, you notice an “ideal” chi in which you feel a welcoming and warm feeling at home… or, like they say you feel at “Home Sweet Home.” On the contrary, if you feel the presence of anxiety, lack, sadness, nervousness, depression, fear, anger or any kind of uneasy feeling in your home, you will perceive the Chi as out of balance.

Just like blood pressure, the perfect chi is different for every person -and even for every home. The ideal situation is to achieve a balance between yin and yang that is unique for you and those that share your living spaces and that is conductive to your own perfect equilibrium between calmness and excitement.

Obviously, Feng Shui is more mystical and elaborated than what I have presented to you in this short article; but there is no need to become overwhelmed or discouraged. I have found a source written by an expert Feng Shui Consultant with many years of successful practice under her belt.

You see, Stephanie was a successful instructional designer in New York City.

After years of listening to her clients complaints that they couldn’t find a Feng Shui book that explained the basics in a way they could understand and use, Stephanie decided to present this complex information in a format and sequence that is easy to understand and use.

That is when she started writing about the Art or Placement in simple terms that are easy to understand and follow.

Interesting Fact…

When the Disney Corporation was planning their new Disneyland Theme Park in Hong Kong, an expert Feng Shui master was hired to help with the park’s layout and design. After careful consideration, the master suggested shifting the main gate by 12 degrees to enhance energy flow and profitability.

Then, the master incorporated the five natural elements of Feng Shui and a virtual koi pond in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel’s flagship restaurant, “The Golden Lotus.”

Incense was burned every time a building was completed. For positive energy flow related to family and happiness, Sept 12th, 2005 was chosen as The Day for the Grand Opening!

Job Interview

Successful Interviewing Tips to

Find the Job of Your Dreams!

You can call it anything you want… “laid off,” “let go” or “downsized”… at the end, it all means the same. What matters the most is the emotional turmoil that goes through a person’s mind once the news sinks in, from self-esteem to relationships to actually being able to pay the bills, the enormous burden can be felt in every area of life.

I don’t have to tell you about statistics. We are all quite familiar with the common challenges and the problematic times we are facing worldwide. But…. if you have lost your job, I’m going to ask you to read this article as you may find a couple of bits of useful information to use in your next job interview. So, step back for a little bit, and try to see things from a different perspective.

Re-focus your mind even if for a few minutes and allow yourself to see this experience as a blessing in disguise; as a time to re-evaluate your talents and finally have the opportunity to be, do and have whatever you want in your life. The Internet is filled with countless stories of people who thought everything was lost when they got laid off, only to discover that it was the best thing that happened to them a few weeks or months down the road.

In other words, now is the time to get courageous, go out, get a job interview, or step up to start a new and exciting career. Luckily for us these days, becoming an entrepreneur not as difficult as it once was!

You literally have thousands of resources at your fingertips to help you land a job interview for the job of your dreams, and if you are willing (or able) to relocate, your options are multiplied. Besides the common sources such as the local papers (especially weekend editions), your local library and the multiple employment search engines in the Internet, you may want to consider hiring a Head Hunter to help you get job interviews that match your talents, education, and goals. Networking groups, the gym and even your friends are good sources too. Don’t be afraid to reach out in a big way!

Not sure what you want to do or how you can take your experience into a new career or business venture? You may want to consider hiring a Life Coach to help you explore your options. What I want to convey here is that regardless of how terrible the horizon looks at this time, there are always better days ahead. Trust me on this.

I realize how frightening this situation can be (I have been in your shoes myself!), especially if you had been employed at the same place for several years. Hitting the job market again can be intimidating, for sure! So, I’m going to take you through the basic points so soon enough, you can land the job of your dreams.

Your Resume

Once you’ve found a job that you are interested in, it’s time to update and submit your resume with the goal of getting called for a job interview.

This first step may seem like a huge task, especially if you had been employed for a long time before you were let go. Thus, remember that your resume is the first item to represent you and sell you to a potential employer even before you meet face to face. It should reflect who you are in an extremely positive light. It should make you stand out among other applicants and urge the person in charge of hiring to want to call you first!

Also know that a resume should not be a “one-size-fits-all” kind of deal. In other words, you should plan to modify your resume and cover letter (more on this in a bit) according to the specific position you are applying to. There are plenty of sites and services to help you create a winning resume. A comprehensive search and dedicated time will get you writing your resume profesionally and relatively fast. You may also consider hiring a professional resume writer.

Your Cover Letter

In most cases, you will also need a cover letter to accompany your resume. In general, the cover letter should be as concise and to the point as possible. Don’t ramble on and on, let your resume do the talking. The cover letter is just a basic introduction to your resume where you can include your main qualities that make you the perfect candidate for the position you are applying for. Above it all, use very positive language and be concise. Some experts recommend using bullet points. I believe it is a good idea as it draws attention to your main talents first.

If you don’t have a specific person to address the letter to, you should address it to “Ladies and Gentlemen”. DO NOT address it to “To Whom It May Concern”. That is considered unprofessional and very non-businesslike.

Just as with the resume, you should match your cover letter to the specific position you are applying for. Think about your talents and experience and match them to the specifics of the position. Be truthful and always proofread extensively to make sure that there are no typographical errors and that your punctuation and grammar is all correct.

Preparing for the Job Interview

A good, solid resume and cover letter will get you a job interview. At that point, you’ll be given the opportunity to shine and stand out from other applicants. And… how do you do that? Preparation is key in the process. Being prepared for a job interview includes two main points: knowing about the industry and your prospective employer, and knowing yourself. It means paying attention to details like personal appearance, punctuality, and demeanor. And it means feeling confident about your interviewing skills. Do your homework and be prepared!

You may want to prepare by thinking of a couple of instances where you handled difficult situations successfully. They may ask you this. Also, make a list some of your attributes, and have those present in your mind to answer specific questions. Talk to former co-workers with whom you worked closely. Ask them to list some work related traits about you that they most admired. While you are at it, ask them if you can list them as references.

Try to find some faults as well just in case they come up as questions. By studying your faults, you will be able to choose one that is somewhat innocuous and turn it around into a positive. For example, if you are obsessively organized, this could be presented as a fault but most employers look at organizational skills as assets not liabilities. So in an interview, I would tell them “one of my shortcomings was that I wanted to be too organized.”

Practice how you will answer possible questions during your job interview. You want to be perceived somewhat spontaneous, but you also want to appear self-confident and professional. The way to do that is to rehearse, not exactly what you will say, but how you will say it. This will increase your confidence tremendously.

A great method is to rehearse in front of a mirror. Study your posture, the way you make eye contact, the tone of your voice, and your body language. Ask a friend to do pretend interviews with you. The more you repeat a scenario, the more comfortable you will begin to feel with it.

What To Wear

First, you must dress properly. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to wear a suit for a job interview or a classy dress if you are a woman. Go with something simple, in a neutral tone. The more conservative your field, the more conservative your suit should be.

It’s also a good idea to match your interview attire to the prospective job. If you are applying for a job working on a warehouse floor, you will look out of place wearing a formal suit. Keeping that in mind, dress a little better than you would for a day at work and make sure your clothes are neat and clean. A good, classic style and cut for a suit is a good choice since it’s appropriate for many situations. Do not wear jeans unless the job you are applying calls for it.

In all instances, wear closed-toe shoes. Sandals are never appropriate for a job interview. And, of course… sneakers are not appropriate either.

If you are a woman, don’t wear an excessive amount of jewelry or makeup. You want to make a good impression at your job interview without distractions and just with your personality and qualifications. If you have long hair, it’s better to wear it up.

You’ll want to bring an extra copy of your resume along with your reference sheet. Leave the backpack at home. A woman can carry a small to medium sized handbag. A man can carry a briefcase if he wishes. A folder or a portfolio are good options as well.

The Job Interview

Once at the interview, you are going to be asked many questions by your potential employer. They will ask about you, your education and past experience. In particular, they’ll want to know about your strengths and weaknesses, and what you did to problem solve when a difficult situation occurred. If you prepared as suggested above, you’ll do great!

Speak slowly and clearly. Pause before you answer a question. Your answers will seem less rehearsed and it will give you a chance to collect your thoughts. Keep in mind that a very brief pause may seem like an eternity to you but it is not.

Since the interviewer’s job is to make sure that not only your skills, but that your personality is a good match as well, you must establish rapport with the person interviewing you. That begins the instant you walk in the door. Let the interviewer set the tone. For example, if the interviewer is speaking softly, so should you.

It’s alright for you to show your true personality, but be careful not to go over-board. Humor may help relax both, you and the person doing the job interview and may help you communicate much easier; but… use caution with humor and never joke about race, politics, faith or anything of that nature.

As you may know, body language gives more away about us than speech. Eye contact is very important but make sure it looks natural. A smiling, relaxed face is very inviting. Hands resting casually in your lap rather than arms folded across your chest also is more inviting. If you normally move your hands around a lot when you speak, tone it down a bit. You don’t want to look too stiff, but you don’t want to look like you’re a bundle of nervous energy.

After The Interview

After the interview, it is essential to follow up with a “Thank You” note. This serves two purposes. First, it tells the employer that you are grateful for their time and the opportunity to inverview. You want to do the polite thing by sending out a note thanking them for that. Also, a thank you note brings you back to mind which can be good if they are close to making a decision on who to hire.

And then, you are done with your part. It is now waiting time. You may get a call for a second interview or you will get a call to discuss salary and starting day. Congratulations!

If you are not chosen for the job, you may want to make a phone call to the person who interviewed you and ask why you weren’t chosen for the position.

Simply explain to the interviewer that you are looking for ways to improve yourself for your next job interview and would appreciate his/her input.

Above it all, do not despair. You may have to go through several job interviews until you land the job of your dreams. You may also find yourself yearning to turn a beloved hobby into a business. Many people have done this. Like them, you can Become A Successful Entrepreneur and realize great success. Remember… it is YOUR life and YOUR time to decide what to do… feeling fulfilled will allow you to live a happier life. Isn’t this what life is all about?

Sleep Learning

Sleep Learning

Facts and Myths

Sleep learning is a technique that helps you harness the power of your subconscious while you sleep. When practiced, it facilitates the learning of new skills, foreign languages, new concepts, and several other self-help  improvements that you may want to implement on a particular area of your life.

Sleep learning -also called hypnopaedia– is not a new concept. In fact, it dates back to the 1930’s and it became more known after Aldous Huxley’s 1932 novel titled “Brave New World“, a fictional story of a Polish boy that was able to recite an entire radio broadcast in perfect English after a radio receiver had been left on during his sleep.

Novels aside, sleep learning has been highly debated and associated with ambiguity mainly because there have been conflicting theories about it. So the question remains… is it really possible to absorb information as you sleep? Can you truly learn new concepts, enhance your memory and learn by utilizing your mind’s full potential… all while you sleep?

Between 1955 and 1968, several studies indicated that it is very possible to learn during sleep when these 3 factors are in place:

  • The suggestions are aligned with the intention to reach a certain goal. This can be done successfully through subliminal messages.
  • The suggestions are received at the right time; during the REM sleep episodes of wakefulness that occur throughout the night or during alpha wave activity (alpha patterns are a normal part of REM sleep, they induce a semi-arousal period offering an optimal opportunity for learning), and…
  • The individual fully agrees with the suggestions and intention to participate.

Because of this findings, it was determined that hypnopaedia can be successfully used as a secondary learning method that supports daytime learning. It also seems to increase the speed of learning during daytime hours, a very useful skill for High School students and working adults alike.

In more recent studies, sleep has been associated with learning and memory enhancementSleep learning seems to hook procedural memories, which aid in learning new skills. It is thanks to procedural memories that you can master a tune on the piano, a chess strategy or a video game.

Thus, the answer is… yes, sleep learning is not only possible, but very helpful; however, there are some myths that need debunking before we proceed.

Here are the two main misguided beliefs about subliminal sleep learning

  • It won’t introduce knowledge directly. It won’t work by implanting information and facts into your brain like if it was a tape recorder. In other words, don’t expect to wake up speaking French if you have never studied it before. Conscious learning must take place during waking hours for sleep learning to work as an enhancer. Only then, it will help you take in data easier and faster.
  • It doesn’t work overnight or immediately. Like many other things that must be learned, practice makes perfect. It is a process in which the message sinks into your brain slowly as you listen often. With each session you become more sharp-witted and focused as your ability to learn starts improving until you absorb information quicker and more naturally.

The Benefits of Subliminal Sleep Learning

So now you know it. Sleep learning is not magical, mysterious or miraculous, and it’s certainly not instantaneous either.

However, more people are using it successfully as they learn about it. There are many reasons why it may be a good idea to engage in this kind of learning. Here are a few of them:

  • It is 100% non invasive. When used as indicated, the messages sink into your mind effortlessly while you sleep. This makes it easy to use where no additional action is needed from you. This is attractive for many as their lifestyle and routine doesn’t have to change. You can play the album at night and won’t interfere with your normal daytime activities.
  • You will experience gradual transformation, and it will support the actions you take.
  • It will facilitate congruence between your subconscious and your conscious minds, so you go about your actions in a way that is conducive to the achievement of your goals. You will be tapping into more of your natural abilities through your right brain and your left brain.
  • Sleep Learning can provide you with a short cut to learn almost anything. More importantly, it offers a way to enhance your self-development in nearly every imaginable way.

One more reason that subliminal messages for sleep learning are becoming more popular is because they are a form of mild hypnosis in which entering trance is not needed to achieve results. When using long term, these messages create important improvements to your subconscious mind and considerably improve your ability to learn. This is not to say that hypnosis does not work or is more complicated. One technique may work better for some people than others.

Subliminal LearningIf you haven’t tried sleep learning yet then the time has come. My friends at SubliminalMP3s are giving 3 FREE subliminal audio albums you can test by yourself; one for relaxation, one for learning, and one for personal development, PLUS an ebook to learn about subliminal messages in more detail.

This is the ideal taster course in subliminal audio, and you may test all 3 of these on whilst you sleep and feel the benefits for yourself. Click on the image too the right to get this free subliminal MP3 bundle…

One case that I recently heard of, is that of a student in Budapest, Hungary, who wanted to learn English quickly so he could participate and win a BBC contest. He decided to use the sleep learning technique and was able to memorize 1026 English words in six weeks during his sleep while just reviewing the information during the day. And… He won the first prize!

There are many stories like this conducted all over the world with great success. Imagine what you could do to prepare for tests, pass exams, undertake a new career, prepare your public speaking engagements and presentations, and even for fun!

Speed Reading

The Advantages and Rewards of

Speed Reading

One of the main means for us to acquire knowledge is by reading. Since most of us are visual learners, reading is one of the most effective ways of feeding the mind with information to promote intelligent thinking, imagination, innovation and to expand our creative and intellectual edge as a whole.

An amazing fact about the human brain is that it can take in unlimited amounts of data. When you pair this with the natural appetite for knowledge that most of us have, you’ve got an awesome combination.

Since you are into Personal Growth and Self Improvement, it’s easy to assume you are fond of reading, and would love to read (and learn) more in less time. After all, with all the breakthroughs and incredible content available to us nowadays, we would need another lifetime just to learn and absorb all that we want to read!

Do you agree? If so, speed reading may be a powerful skill to acquire. In fact, this is a MUST for people that are required to read a lot in school or at work. Fortunately, the idea of attaining this skill has been widespread. I believe that this skill should be incorporated as part of the usual curriculum in schools. After all, we are living in the Information Age, and the amount of available data in all kinds of subject matters is not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.

On the contrary, as information is being made mmore available, people from all walks of life take it upon themselves to pursue and attain a speed reading ability. Since you’ve landed on this page, most likely you are part of this group of people who recognize the importance and the advantages of acquiring this skill.

The good news is that a variety of programs exist today that allow you to learn to read extra fast without decreasing comprehension and while enhancing the retention of the information read. Some of these trainings can be quite pricey but fortunately, you do not actually have to spend hundreds of dollars to attain this talent.

Learning the basics is relatively easy- there’s almost no need for expert guidance. As with the learning of any new skill, all it takes is a good guide, the desire to learn and the commitment to practice it by yourself. As with anything else. repetition is key. It strengthens and solidifies the learning, so the more you practice it the better you get at it.

Here are a few steps on the basics of speed reading.

  • Get your vision checked

First, let’s talk about the obvious. Poor vision can be a hindrance. It strains your eyes as you read, making them become easily fatigued. So, if you believe your vision is not at 20/20, visit your ophthalmologist or optometrist and get your eyes checked. You may need prescription glasses. This will also help you with increased focus and concentration when you are reading.
  • Consider the place in which you read

Choose the right setting in which to read. If indoors, make sure the temperature is not too cold or too hot and that the area is well ventilated with fresh air. This will keep you from getting drowsy. Sit in a comfortable chair suited for reading. Your spine should be well aligned too. This alone will help make your reading more enjoyable. Also, make sure you always read in a well-lit area to prevent eye tiredness and damaging your vision; preferably with the shaft of light coming from your back (over your shoulder) and into the book.
  • Free yourself from distractions

If studying, it may be a good idea to get rid of any music in the background, unless it is a classical piece by Mozart which can help with comprehension. A busy room may also be distracting. Also, if you read outdoors, avoid places that are too noisy, such as kids playing nearby or close to a busy street or park. It’s very important to minimize distractionsto enhance comprehension and retention.
  • Be aware of your reading time

Use your watch or a clock to keep track of your reading pace. Make sure you take note of the time you start reading and the time you finish. This way you will be able to first, see how fast you read; and it’ll help you track your progress as you learn speed reading as well.
  • Get rid of fillers in the items that your read

This is one of the first things people do when trying to improve their speed reading. Try to focus your attention on the words that play a major role in every sentence. You may also want to skip words and focus on the complete thought. This ability -known as skimming– involves searching the words within the sentences for clues to meaning. This comes naturally for some, but most people require learning how to ‘skim’ though the pages.
  • Speed over comprehension

When you start at speed reading, concentrate on hastening your pace leaving comprehension for later. Try to read one page as fast as you can and then take a pause to assess what you understood. As you go about your day, try to remember what you read and evaluate your retention of information as well. With constant practice both, your comprehension and retention will sharpen by themselves.
  • Avoid re-reading

Re-reading will make you waste more time making your reading actually slower. The key is to use a guide, such as your finger or a pointer when reading a sentence. The usage of guides is called meta guiding. This will facilitate your reading and will lessen the chances of having to re-read words or sentences.
  • Do not read out loud

Sub-vocalization as it is called, can slow you down because you end up reading word per word. Aside from that, your own voice could also act as a distraction and affect your focus.
  • Practice

As the cliché goes, “Practice Makes Perfect.” You’ll need desire to learn this skill and persistence to acquire it. By applying yourself to the task of learning you’ll eventually master speed reading.  Above it all, do not stress over it. It can affect your learning curve and get you frustrated. Do it gradually, keep it fun. Before you know it you’ll get a hang of speed reading.

Public Speaking

Beginners Guide to

Public Speaking

Did you know that fear of public speaking ranks #2 among most people’s top dreads? Yes, it goes above and beyond fear of illness, fear of flying or heights, and even fear of terrorism, and death itself.

click me

Yes, it is amazing that most people rather die before standing on a podium to give a speech! And I know better, cause I’ve been in that position myself… I’m not saying that I wanted to die, just that it is one of the most uncomfortable situations I’ve been in, especially at the beginning of my public speaking career. I must tell you that it gets easier with time, but stage fright never goes away completely.

Speaking in front of a congregation or to a crowd may be a harrowing experience for most of us. From physical symptoms such as accelerated pulse, blushing, breaking out into a sweat, dry mouth, nausea, and blurred vision, hand tremors, amongst others, to the internal dialog we must deal with (such as “People will laugh at me“, “I won’t be able to communicate my message clearly“, or “I will make a fool of myself“), the whole experience can be nerve-wreaking!

And sometimes, when the speaker gets an extreme case of performance anxiety, the words may escape his mind and the message may end up lost without getting the point across. This situation only aggravates things. The presenter may experience feelings of insecurity, defeat, fear of being criticized and rejected, and other uncomfortable feelings that no one wants to experience and much less in public.

Regardless of how good your presentation is, how much you prepared for it, or how well meant your message is, if the delivery is random and messy, it will be invaluable.

The good news is that public speaking is an art that can be learned. It includes not just mastery of the subject, but self control and lots of practice. Being well prepared for your speaking engagement has no substitute. And, with dedication and constant practice, you will be speaking to your audience confidently in no time at all.

You must be wondering why I said above than stage fright never goes away completely. Glad you are paying attention 🙂

Well, it’s true. Stage fright never goes away 100% mostly because many factors are beyond your reach. For example, the location, equipment malfunction, your plane being late, and even the type and size of the audience you will present to, among other things. Assuming all other factors are in check, the art of public speaking has to do more with self-confidence than anything else. This means that even though stage fright might be present, the more confident you become, the easier it will be to keep the anxiety in check.

Here are some pointers for you to follow during your public speaking endeavor:

  • Practice Visualization
Several days before your speaking engagement, take time to do this exercise. Take a deep breath and relax. Now picture yourself in front of the audience delivering the speech confidently and see the crowd listening with interest, taking notes, smiling, nodding in agreement, and finally standing up and giving a round of applause as you finish. As with any visualization, the more you do it, the more effective it will be and the more confident you will feel. For a successful visualization, add details and emotion. Feel it “as if” you were already there, giving your presentation!
  • Practice Your Presentation or Topic Beforehand
Make sure your presentation is topic-oriented, appropriate for what the audience is expecting and at the level of understanding. This includes even the language you will use. Draw a small audience to practice with. Assign a timer and an evaluator during the simulation exercise. The timer records the length of your delivery so that it fits perfectly within the allotted time, giving you the opportunity to cover all of your information, and possibly leaving time for Q&A. The task of the evaluator, on the other hand, will be to check on the manner of your delivery – as well as the content of your topic.
  • Be Confident
Being a bit nervous is quite alright but over doing it can detrimental. Confidence relieves nervousness in any undertaking and especially in public speaking. You can build the confidence needed to prevent feeling anxious by working on simulated speaking sessions prior to the speaking engagement. Show your confidence by mastering your topic -not mere memorizing- but by truly knowing your topic inside-out. Everything that you need, such as equipment and technical requirements, must be set up and tested prior to the presentation day.
  • Present-ability and Body Language
First impressions count. Dress appropriately for the occasion. Comfort is a primary consideration. Clothes/suits that you don’t feel comfortable with can affect your stance and disposition on stage. Use your body language to your advantage. Present in a charismatic way that draws the attention of your audience.

Stand tall and erect (good posture), maintain eye contact, and precision-time your movements on stage.
If you need to use gestures to express a point, that is OK but don’t overdo it. Moving lightly can release some tension and nervousness. A hand in the pocket also works wonders while on stage rather than flicking your hands around. Always pay attention to your audience’s reactions in the course of your presentation. There may be signs of ineffectiveness and you may need to make little adjustments as you go to capture your audience attention back. Injecting humor when appropriate is good but make sure the topic of your presentation allows for it. Be careful not to overdo it either.

  • Speak with Conviction
Believe in every word you say. This will radiate through your audience and will manifest your confidence and mastery of the topic you are presenting. During an open forum, listen to the questions being asked and respond accordingly.

Finally, remember to take sips of water as you go to prevent dry mouth, walk from one side of the stage to the other at a nice pace, and be conscious of the fact that you are talking to an audience not an individual, so change your eye focus from one person to another as you talk.

click meHere is a secret… we know that every speaker gets nervous at one point or another, even after years of delivering speeches and lots of practice. This is because every audience is different, the topics may vary and our level of confidence changes from one day to another for a variety of reasons.

Some days we may feel more confident than others, so take that into consideration and feel at ease with this fact. It is perfectly fine to feel a bit anxious but that doesn’t have to disable you when you’re speaking in public.

The Power of Gratitude

The Power Of

Gratitude

Thank You is probably one of the universal phrases that gives meaning to life. It is an everyday thing – it transcends culture, race, tradition, gender, status, language, and age.

No matter how you see it, expressing gratitude to someone for something – be it a thing, a person, an event or even a simple deed, speaks of a person’s predisposition to life as they acknowledge something good received.

Gratitude knows neither boundaries nor limits. It does not take too much effort or time to express it but its impact can last from a few hours to a lifetime; hence The Power of Gratitude.

Being grateful is a personal act of conviction that often leads to having a positive outlook of life, for a person’s point of view in life depends largely on how he/she perceives things, events, people or anything that comes his/her way. As you can imagine, gratitude goes hand in hand with having a positive attitude which helps you process matters in a lighter way even when things are not going the way you expect them to.

Having a grateful heart will always help you cope with the complexities of your life. Yet, many still wonder if it’s possible to be grateful for the challenges that show up in one’s life every now and then… Can we –somehow- be thankful for a tragedy that has impacted our lives forever?

This is a very personal decision; some people are, some others are not. Keep on reading for you to lean how gratitude can help in difficult circumstances and so you can arrive at your own conclusion…

How Does the Power of Gratitude Work?

Each one of us has a good number of reasons to be grateful for, every single day. Waking up in the morning and realizing that we are breathing, alive, and for the most part, healthy is the first one.

This may seem simple –or even trivial- however, let’s look at the bigger picture… Being in that position, it means we have been given the opportunity to do something of value, to rectify the mistakes committed yesterday, to be creative and contribute to your community, to go to work and to enjoy your family, among other things. It also gives you the possibility to meet new people and do some good for society and even the world at large. And, it gives you the option to learn a thing or two which can help you cope with challenges and improve your life in one way or another.

Thus, be grateful for having been given another day!

And then, every once in a while, we encounter circumstances that were not expected. This is when the Power of Gratitude makes itself obvious, as being grateful can mark the difference between feeling miserable or experiencing an overall pleasant life.

For someone who is used to being thankful only for the good things in life, physical and psychological symptoms of brokenness may take over when a challenge or sad moment inevitable arises as part of life. Mental anguish, panic, anxiety, fear, and a variety of physical symptoms may manifest, and when not dealt with properly, these can lead to more serious health problems once the heart and the mind have been compromised.

The grateful person, on the other hand, takes things from a different perspective. From this position, one is able to see the blessing in disguise that comes through some adversities. For instance, you have most likely heard of a single mother who lost her job and just when everything seemed lost, she found a better opportunity that will allow her to provide better for her children.

As a grateful woman, she did not allow for her world to crumble. She strived to rise above the situation. Her emotions were kept in balance, and her logical processes in check. What seemed like devastation at first, turned out to be a shift toward a better direction in life… this is what a blessing in disguise looks like!

We can all cultivate this kind of attitude for the difficult moments in life by only realizing that expressing gratitude doesn’t come from the mind but from the heart. From this premise alone you can determine the Power of Gratitude and the impact it can have in your life.

As an added benefit, let’s consider the metaphysical viewpoint of gratitude. The grateful person emits positive vibrations, which in turn attract more positive experiences to their life. If you follow law of attraction principles in your life, you already know how powerful this can be!

I invite you to listen to Dr. Deepak Chopra’s mini meditation on The Power of Gratitude… less than 3 minutes that will leave you with a smile on your face… promise! 🙂

Points to Consider on The Power of Gratitude

  • When you are grateful you are treating yourself well

Gratefulness does not prevent or discard difficult situations in life – rather accepts them and allows for a more firm resolve and will to face them and make the nest of of them. Being grateful also enhances your ability to solve problems logically while keeping your heart engaged to give you comfort as you move along the experience.

  • Gratitude is a transformative trait

Once you adopt a grateful state of being, your life is likely to be changed forever. You will exude an aura that soothes and calms others, even without you being aware or others knowing why. You will unconsciously decline abrasiveness, rudeness and aggressiveness because you will be able to see beyond things, people and events. You will be able to remain serene and be compasionate toward those that have not reached the state of being that you have. You will smile often. When you choose to be grateful, you make it a habit to accept and think of situations as gifts, no matter what they bring; and, when experiences are taken as gifts that present themselves to teach you something, you will always welcome them.

  • Gratitude is more powerful when things are not bright

A grateful heart is not choosy. Instead, it warmly welcomes anything that comes along, embraces the lessons and, like a triumphant warrior, moves forward much stronger and firmer than before. In deep retrospection and reflection, gratitude is a powerful armor against false pride, anger and bitterness – the things that corrode a one’s personality.

Gratitude often brings the best out of people. Grateful people are humble, caring, kind, and considerate. They are optimistic in nature and usually live happier lives. This is why cultivating and practicing gratefulness is to your benefit; it is a vital element for your self-growth. This is where the power of gratitude lays.

There are simple practices that we can engage in to help us cultivate gratitude.
